Programme Overview

General Nursing is a comprehensive undergraduate-level course that prepares students for a career in nursing. The course covers various aspects of nursing, including medical-surgical nursing, pediatric nursing, obstetric and gynecological nursing, psychiatric nursing, and community health nursing. The duration of the course is typically four years, and it includes both theoretical and practical components.

The course aims to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills required to deliver quality care to patients across the lifespan. Students will learn about the anatomy and physiology of the human body, pharmacology, medical-surgical nursing, maternal and child health nursing, mental health nursing, and community health nursing.

The theoretical component of the course covers topics such as nursing ethics, communication skills, nursing management, research, and leadership. Students will also learn about healthcare systems and policies, health promotion, and disease prevention.

The practical component of the course includes hands-on training in clinical settings such as hospitals, clinics, and community health centers. Students will have the opportunity to work alongside registered nurses and healthcare professionals, providing direct patient care and gaining valuable experience in patient assessment, medication administration, wound care, and other nursing interventions.

Upon completion of the course, graduates will be eligible to apply for registration as a nurse and pursue a career in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and community health centers. They may also choose to specialize in a particular area of nursing or pursue further education in nursing or related fields.

Career Opportunities

  • Registered Nurse (RN): Registered nurses provide patient care, including administering medication, monitoring vital signs, and coordinating with other healthcare professionals. RNs can work in hospitals, clinics, schools, nursing homes, and other healthcare settings.
  • Nurse Practitioner (NP): Nurse practitioners are advanced practice registered nurses who provide primary and specialty healthcare services. NPs can diagnose and treat medical conditions, prescribe medication, and order diagnostic tests.
  • Nurse Educator: Nurse educators teach nursing students and healthcare professionals about patient care, healthcare policies, and procedures. They can work in academic settings, hospitals, clinics, and community health organizations.
  • Nurse Administrator: Nurse administrators manage and oversee the daily operations of healthcare facilities, including staffing, budgeting, and quality control. They can work in hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and government agencies.
  • Nurse Researcher: Nurse researchers conduct scientific studies to improve patient care, develop new treatments, and advance healthcare practices. They can work in academic settings, hospitals, and research organizations.
  • Case Manager: Case managers work with patients and their families to coordinate healthcare services and ensure that patients receive the appropriate care. They can work in hospitals, clinics, and community health organizations.
  • Public Health Nurse: Public health nurses work in community settings to promote health and prevent disease. They can work in government agencies, schools, and community health organizations.
